Dear Parents,

Catholic Education Week for the Sale Diocese begins tomorrow, Friday, 21^st May and continues until Friday, 28^th May. This year is the bicentennial of Catholic Education in Australia, with the first Catholic school being established in Paramatta in October 1820. This year’s theme for the Diocese of Sale is, “Faith in the future – I have come that they may have life and have it to the full”, which is a combination of a quote from John’s Gospel and the theme for the bicentennial of Catholic Education in Australia. DOSCEL Director, Maria Kirkwood, states that “during Catholic Education Week we are reminded that Jesus is the good shepherd who invites us to be the best people we can be. In all we do in Catholic schools, we strive to help each person experience the love of God, thus enabling them to live life fully. This year’s theme reflects the core purpose of Catholic education, which is to provide an education that enables our students to make a meaningful contribution to the world, and enable them to enter into a life-giving relationship with God”.

Tomorrow’s launch of Catholic Education Week begins with a Mass at St Michael’s Church, Traralgon, celebrated by Bishop Greg, for school leaders throughout the Diocese.

Catholic Education Week at St Mary’s will involve an Open Day on Monday, 24^th May. I encourage all new and existing parents to visit our school, where you will be taken on a tour. These tours will allow you to see our classrooms in action and the amazing opportunities we have to offer here at St Mary’s. If you know of any friends or family who may be interested in sending their children to St Mary’s, now or in the future, please encourage them to make an appointment for a tour on Monday, 24^th May or at a time that suits them best.

MATHLETICS WORLD MATHS DAY: On Wednesday, 5th May the Senior students participated in the World’s Largest Online Maths Competition. During the day students could find a peer somewhere in the world who was ready to pit their mathematical skills against theirs. Students had 60 seconds to complete as many questions as possible from various levels. Speed and accuracy were a focus, however the main aim was having fun.

Although there were a few technical glitches, some students were awarded certificates for their efforts.

Draw Like An Artist, Write Like A Poet.

Students were asked to draw what a "Bad Mad Hair Day" would look like for them.

They were then asked to write a poem about this day, using a DIAMANTE structure.

WOW WHAT A DAY!

On Monday, students from year 3 to year 6 competed in the Cross Country Run at The Yarram Golf Club. A big congratulation goes out to all runners for their dedication and performance on the Big Day! Overall, we came in 4th as a school, with many students placing in their age categories.

Congratulations to Ava P, Jikaya and Arlin who came 5th in their age groups and Lars who came 2nd.

Ava has qualified to compete in the Wellington Zone Cross Country on Monday.

Good Luck Ava.....

Thank you to Sharon and Deb Owens for supervising and supporting the students, Anthony Sheedy for coordinating the day and to family and friends for your continuous help and support.

Every month Yarram and District Health Service-School Achievement Awards are being offered to St Mary's students. For the month of April it was HEALTHY LUNCHBOXES. Arlin, Shekinah and Kasharna received the health lunchbox achievement awards.

For the month of May it is KEEPING ACTIVE. It's great to see students in the playground keeping themselves active at reccess and lunchtime.

Cathy Cook is kindly donating her time to cater for a 21st birthday at the Mack's Creek Hall. This is a fantastic fundraiser for St Mary's. Cathy is kindly asking parents and friends of St Mary's for HELP catering for this event.

5 potato bakes, cooked in a disposable foil tray (trays can be collected from school)
4 doz boiled eggs shelled
3 large pasta salads (dressing on the side to be added)
3 coleslaws, equivalent to 1 whole cabbage each. (dressing on the side to be added)
3 lots of 50 small sausage rolls
3 slow cookers
4 helpers between 5.30-8pm on 29th May at the Mack's Creek Hall

The rain did not deter us on Friday's Walk To School Day. Bikes, scooters, walkers and umbrellas made their way to school.

We may have jumped in a few pudddles on the way!!!

This email will provide you with information regarding the set-up process. Please read the information carefully and complete the required steps, as per the instructions. All families are required to register as this will eventually become St Mary’s main Learning Management System.

Thank you everyone for supporting our Pie Drive fundraiser. The Pies will be delivered to St Mary's on Friday 4th June and be ready for families to pick up from 10.15am. We will place the pies in our school fridge until you are able to collect them.
