Dear Parents and Friends of St Mary’s,
We celebrated our Mary MacKillop Liturgy on Monday as a whole school. It was beautiful to pray through the story of Mary MacKillop, her early life, her trials and how she put every child at the forefront of her mission to educate underprivileged students.
I would like to thank the students that delivered the liturgy for the thoughtful and respectful way they told Mary MacKillop's story.
This Monday coming, August 15th, is a student-free day. The staff will engage in Professional Development, an integral part of collaborating to plan and implement teaching collegially across our school. These days allow the team to share our common vision and strive for excellence in learning at St Mary’s.
Due to Debbie Isemann taking a week's leave as of this Friday, August 12th, next week's newsletter will be postponed to the following week. Any pressing news or changes to the school's day-to-day events will be sent via Class Dojo.
I hope you enjoy a wonderful long weekend.
Stay well,
Maria

Monday, 8th August was the feast day of Saint Mary MacKillop. We had a mass at the Mary MacKillop hall to celebrate the life of an amazing woman who dedicated herself to children and their education. Thank you, Sue Benc for the cake!
After everyone was finished with their Eisteddfod Performances, all our students were treated to a pre-lunch snack of hot chips and gravy.
BOOK WEEK: August 20 - 26
To celebrate Book Week (August 2oth - 26th); we are having a special dress-up day on Wednesday, 24th August. All staff and students can come dressed up as a character from one of their favourite books.
Bring the book along and share what makes the story and character so special to you.
SchoolTV Special Report - Mindfulness
Recent studies have shown that one in seven primary school children have significant mental health disorders, and one in four secondary school students have psychological problems. Every year, in the last five years, that number has increased. Mindfulness is the practice of being in the moment, being present and being open to what you're focusing on.
Mindfulness is all about building resilience. It is not a replacement for therapy or medication for mental health issues, but will hopefully reduce the need for it later on.
Religion News: Feast of the Assumption
The Feast of the Assumption will be celebrated on Monday the 15th of August.
The Feast of the Assumption or the Assumption of Mary, Jesus’ mother is a very important festival of Christianity as it commemorates the day on which Mary’s body ascended to heaven at the end of her life. This celebration is observed within all denominations of Christianity; however, it is regarded with the most importance among Catholics.
Different countries have different ways of celebrating this Feast Day. In Australia, it is celebrated with a special Mass for Mary, which include songs and readings about Mary. In some Eastern countries, women with the name Mary welcome people to their homes in honour of the Blessed Mary. In some other countries, the celebrations include colourful festivals with street processions and fireworks displays.
Let us remember Mary with our special prayer The Hail Mary.
Hail Mary, full of grace.
The Lord is with thee,
Blessed, art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God.
Prayer for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.
