Dear Parents and Friends of St Mary’s,
Here we are, at the end of Term Two, and as I sit here writing and reflecting on all we have achieved throughout the term, I feel incredibly proud of everyone's efforts and support given through the highs and lows of the term.
We, as school staff, have noticed an increase in conversations around social media usage, for example, chat platforms and the impact it is having on friendships. I ask that you spend some with your children discussing the appropriate manner in which they conduct themselves via their phone or media usage and reinforce positive behaviour towards their peers.
I would like to thank the staff and school community for all their support over the term, and I wish you a safe and restful holiday.
Kind Regards,
Maria

END OF TERM WHACKY CLOTHES DAY
How fantastic and colourful our last day of term was! Mismatched socks, brightly coloured hair, back-to-front shirts, everyone made a wonderful effort to be outrageous and creative.
Our Senior students are learning to write a poetry form called Cinquain. These are their lovely verses all about creepy crawlies.... with pictures!
WASP
Fuzzy, small, big eyes, stripes
Buzzing, loud, annoying, fly, sing, sting.
Pain, hurt, sore, numb, anaphylactic, death, scared
Nest underground.
By Harry.
SCORPIONS
Big, black, annoying, pointy tails
Crawling, slow, stinging, pinches, six legs
Scared, traumatised, annoyed, never coming home
Scary pointy things.
By Lyla.
FLUTTERING BUTTERFLY
Majestical, bright, spotty, purple
Flying, flapping, eating, hunting, energetic, clumsy
Safe, calming, not real, nervous, itchy, bright, amazing
Graceful.
By Indiana
BIG HUNTSMAN
Big, deadly, hairy, brown
Chilling, watching me, huddled up, scary, hungry, sleeping
Scared, terrified, traumatised, creepy, confused, screaming, shocking
The big hairy huntsman.
By Breanna.
SCHOOL TV SPECIAL REPORT
Social media is a wonderful way to connect with others, share experiences and opinions and express ideas. But it can have a dark side for body image, which requires a critical and thoughtful approach to counteract.
People who have body image concerns feel worried, distressed and unhappy about their appearance, weight or shape. They may be concerned about being too large, too small, not curvy enough, or not muscular enough...
NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. Its origins can be traced back to the Aboriginal rights movement, and on Australia Day 1938, protestors marched through the streets of Sydney to highlight the status and treatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians.
This protest was one of the first major civil rights gatherings in the world and was known as the 'Day of Mourning'. This later became 'Aborigines Day', and in 1955, it was decided that it should become a positive celebration of Aboriginal culture, heritage and achievement, rather than a protest.
International bestselling Author Graeme Simsion will be at the Yarram Library on Saturday, 2nd July.
