Dear Parents and friends of St Mary’s,
A big congratulations to all the students who participated in the SSV Wellington Division Cross Country on Monday. It was wonderful to hear of the student's achievements and the effort made by all to try their hardest and enjoy the challenge. Thank you to Anthony for all his time organising for our students to be part of this important school and community event.
Our election BBQ was a huge success, and we sold 300 sausages which was a fantastic fundraiser for our Little Learners Love Literacy reading program. These occasions do not happen without volunteers' generous time and support. A huge thank you to all parents, students and staff who gave up their morning and afternoon to cook sausages, serve and clean up.
The sense of community was palpable as we shared stories, laughed, and genuinely enjoyed the sunshine.
We look forward to welcoming all our wonderful Grandparents and special people to our open school activities and morning tea on Tuesday, May 31s at 9:30 am to celebrate Catholic Education Week. It is a wonderful opportunity to be part of the dynamic learning happening throughout St Mary’s.
Kind Regards,
Maria

We would like to respectfully advise you, that all information and changes regarding your child’s school activities be directed through the school office instead of reaching out to individual teachers on Class Dojo.
The administration office is our central reference point regarding any student, and teachers are kept updated with the relevant information.
Please understand that the safety of our students is of the utmost importance to us and we appreciate your cooperation in helping us keep them safe.
On Monday, 30th May 2022 please come dressed in working clothes as we will be having a Clean Up St. Mary's Day from 11:30 - 3:00 pm.
Our Sausage Sizzle fundraiser for Election Day went brilliantly, thanks largely to all the staff and parent volunteers who gave up may hours of their Saturday to lend us a helping hand.
What started off as a cold morning, turned into a gorgeous, sunny day. The Mary MacKillop hall drew crowds of voters and many of them stopped by to buy a sausage or two after they had finished voting.
We are very thankful to Ian and Jamie Badham, Ben and Bek Muir, Anthony and Janette Sampson, Michael Hobson, Maria Moore, Deb Girton, Jo Griffiths, Hope Haughie and Anthony Sheedy. A very special 'Thank You' to our student helpers; Indiana Bainbridge, Hunter Badham, Macy & Ivy Sampson and Paige & Grace Muir.
Religion News: Catholic Education Week
Catholic Education Week commences tomorrow, Friday the 27th of May. Catholic Education Week is about celebrating the excellent teaching and learning across Catholic Education. The Theme for Catholic Education Week is taken from the Gospel of Mark, chapter 16.
“Go out into the world and spread the Good News to all creation.”
In one form or another, the command to go everywhere and tell everyone appears in all four gospels as well as in the Acts of the Apostles (Matthew 28:19-20, Mark 16:15, Luke 24:46-48, John 20:21 and Acts 1:8). Over the last two hundred years, the command has come to be known as the "Great Commission." The Great Commission in Mark's gospel indicates something of its importance. With just 16 chapters, Mark is the shortest of the gospels (at 28 chapters, Matthew is the longest). Some things in the other gospels do not appear in Mark. For example, Mark says nothing about Jesus' birth or childhood. Thus, it seems that, to Mark, the Great Commission was more significant than the Christmas story. Biblical passages such as "I am sending you," "Be my witnesses to the ends of the earth," and "Go make disciples of all nations" all state that same command. The mission Jesus gave to his Apostles must have sounded totally impossible, beyond their comprehension: “Go out into the world and spread the good news to all creation.” They, were a group with so many limitations, they had even drawn back at the moment of crisis, and now they were entrusted with the mission of Jesus himself. Perhaps even more astounding is the fact that they did carry out this mission, and we, together with so many others, are the beneficiaries of their faith and trust in Jesus.
The first Catholic school in Australia was founded in October 1820, by an Irish Catholic priest John Therry. The school, which Catholic historians believe was in Hunter Street, Parramatta, New South Wales taught 31 students. The first Catholic School in Victoria was founded in 1842, St Mary’s School in Williamston. It is the oldest continuously operating Catholic school in Victoria.
A Prayer For Catholic Education Week
Loving God, We thank you for our Catholic school communities in the Diocese of Sale.
We pray that we may walk ‘the way of the gospel’ together, as we accompany each other in our learning this year. May the Holy Spirit guide us and give us new eyes, new ears and open hearts, helping us to bring your love to all we encounter.
Mary, mother of the living gospel, pray for us.
We ask this prayer through Jesus our Lord and teacher.
Amen.
Kind Regards,
Sue Benc
SSV WELLINGTON DIVISION CROSS COUNTRY 2022
Well done to the students who competed in the SSV Wellington Division Cross Country. We are proud of your efforts. Thank you to Anthony Sheedy, Sharon Garland and Hope Haughie.
This week, SchoolTV has a Special Report:
Unfortunately, the reality of Covid-19 is not quite over and there is still a considerable amount of uncertainty. We have all experienced this event together and we are at various levels of transition and adjustment across Australia and New Zealand. The circumstances of this situation have significantly impacted students, parents and teachers alike.
Emotions during this time have varied. For some it has been an opportunity to reflect on what is important, whilst others have embraced the opportunity to learn new things. One thing that has remained constant - the need for good parenting and supportive teachers. Both of which offer young people stability and familiarity, and are vitally important during this time of transitition and adjustment.
