Dear Parents and Friends of St Mary’s,
We are moving very quickly through our term and have many items on our school calendar. Please take the time to update yourself with the school events in our newsletter.
Today we celebrated St Patrick's Day and the children enjoyed a “frog in the pond” …...Green jelly and a chocolate frog! Throughout the classrooms the students learnt who St Patrick was and how he became a Saint.
Congratulations to the Grade 3/4 students for leading our school mass today. It was lovely to come together and spend time in reflection during these uncertain times. Thank you also, to the students who sang in the choir, your magnificent voices filled our hearts with joy.
We had our final footy clinic today and all the students and staff enjoyed the drills and skills to help promote the love of footy season. Well done to all the students on the level of participation and their smiles said it all!
We look forward to welcoming you all, especially our new families to our school BBQ next Tuesday March 22nd, and 5pm. This is a wonderful opportunity to come together , share a meal and connect after time apart.
Take care,
Maria

WELCOME PICNIC
We are very happy to announce that our welcome picnic will be on Tuesday, 22nd March; from 5:00 - 7:00 pm.
St. Mary's will provide sausages and hamburgers along with a few salads. You are welcome to bring a plate, a salad or a dessert to share, or even bring your own food. Carry along a picnic blanket if you would like to sit on the grass.
This is a wonderful opportunity for us all to get together in a relaxed, casual atmosphere, over food and laughter. Everyone is welcome.
We look forward to seeing you there.
St Mary's will be holding a lucky jar stall at the Yarram Easter Country Fair.
Saturday, 16th April, from 2:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Yarram Recreation Reserve
To make this a success we need help from our St Mary's Community to donate empty jars or jars filled with small items.
We have some jars that are ready to be filled. If you would like us to send jars home, please call the office or send us an email.
Help Required prior and on the day of the Carnival:
- help on the day at the stall
- numbering the jars
- purchasing products to make extra jars (schools expense)
- making up extra jars as we are hoping to have 200 or more lucky jars on the day.
- donation of empty jars.
Please contact Debbie at the school office if you can help with any of the above.
Easter Raffle Donations.
We are asking all families to help support our Easter Raffle by making a donation towards the prizes. This could be Easter Eggs or something else that reflects Easter.
Please drop your donations into the office before Friday 1st April.
Thank you for all your support.
Easter Raffle 2022.
Tickets have already been sent home with the students. Tickets cost $1 each and there are 20 tickets in a booklet.
Please return all sold and unsold tickets to the office by Tuesday 5th April.
Raffle will be drawn at school on Wednesday 6th April.
Growing up is not straight-forward
The pandemic has delivered change and upheaval to families on an enormous scale. However upheaval is not new for some children, particularly those who've experienced illness, a loss of a loved one or who've moved home and changed schools.
Each change requires acceptance, adjustment and an attitude realignment to help them fit the new circumstances. Every change is an opportunity for a child to grow and develop, if they are supported, and they're not overwhelmed by the experience.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day
Known as the Patron Saint of Ireland and the Apostle of Ireland, St. Patrick was instrumental in bringing the Roman Catholic beliefs to Ireland and in subsequent years, Saint Patrick's Day became a day to commemorate Catholicism in Ireland.
Who was St. Patrick?
He was born in Roman Britain in the late 4th century, he was kidnapped at the age of 16 and taken to Ireland as a slave. He escaped but returned about 432 CE to convert the Irish to Christianity. By the time of his death on March 17th, 461, he had established monasteries, churches, and schools. Many legends grew up around him, for example, that he was responsible for getting rid of all the snakes in Ireland.
Ireland came to celebrate his day with religious services and feasts and this continues on today. There is much celebrating in Ireland and around the world.
How did the Shamrock become associated with St. Patrick?
St. Patrick was a Christian missionary who used a clover to explain the Holy Trinity of Christianity, which is God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. He said the three leaves stand for the three beings of God, and the stem shows how they are united into one.
Kind Regards
