Dear Parents and Friends of St Mary’s,
Our prayers go out to the communities devastated by the floods in Queensland and NSW.
PRAYER FOR FLOOD VICTIMS
Almighty God,
Creator and preserver of our world. We ask you to hear our humble prayers for those affected by the floods throughout Queensland & NSW. We pray for those still threatened by floods in city & rural areas. Protect both life and property. At your mercy, bring relief to all affected areas.
We pray for the sick and injured, the homeless, the bereaved, and those still searching for loved ones in this great tragedy. Have compassion, merciful Lord, in the midst of their profound suffering, comforting and relieving them according to their needs.
Heal those broken in body and spirit. Give courage and hope in the midst of despair. Through the generosity of governments and individuals across our nation, provide a future for those whose present circumstances are marked by loss and desperation. Protect all those who are most vulnerable in the areas of devastation. And by your gracious hand, rebuild communities where men, women and children are nurtured with care and love.
And turn the hearts of all to you, the God of all comfort.
In Jesus’ name, we pray. AMEN.
Kind Regards,
Maria

WELCOME PICNIC
We are very happy to announce that our welcome picnic will be on Tuesday, 22nd March; from 5:00 - 7:00 pm.
St. Mary's will provide sausages and hamburgers along with a few salads. You are welcome to bring a plate, a salad or a dessert to share, or even bring your own food. Bring along a picnic blanket if you would like to sit on the grass.
This is a wonderful opportunity for us all to get together in a relaxed, casual atmosphere, over food and laughter.
Explaining scary world events to our children
Almost exactly two years ago our world changed in incomprehensible ways. It was supposed to be a couple of weeks. A month at most. We just had to isolate at home. Flatten the curve. Protect the vulnerable.
It meant working from home unless we were essential workers. It also meant school was at home. But it was an adventure. A reset. A chance to change things up and focus on what matters most; to help make a difference for our communities.
Religious News: Prayer
During the Season of Lent, we are asked to fast, pray and to give to those that are not as fortunate as others (almsgiving).
The focus at St Mary’s Catholic School this week has been on prayer. We commenced our school week with a lovely Liturgy on Prayer led by the Grades Three and Four. On Thursday the 17th of March at 9:30, they will also lead us in our next School Mass, where the focus again will be on prayer.
We can find many examples in the Bible where Jesus prayed, especially in the Gospel of Luke. During his time in the desert, he prayed constantly in preparation for his ordeal that was to follow. He prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane on the night that he was arrested, before his crucifixion.
The Lord’s Prayer
Gospel of Luke 11 He was praying in a certain place, and after he had finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.” 2
He said to them, “When you pray, say:
Father,hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come
Give us each day our daily bread.
And forgive us our sins,
for we ourselves forgive everyone indebted to us.
And do not bring us to the time of trial.”
Here we can see where the Lord’s Prayer that we say today comes from the Gospel of Luke.
However, we do not need to say formal prayers to pray. We can just talk with God. We can pray anywhere and at anytime, we do not need any special place to pray.
Kind Regards
Sue Benc
Hopefully everyone has already set up their Class Dojo accounts.
Class Dojo is a school communication platform that teachers, students, and families use every day to build close-knit communities by sharing what’s being learned in the classroom home through photos, videos, and messages.
If you are having any issues with setting up your account, clink on the link below for instructions:
The School Uniform Shop is open Mondays to Fridays 8.30am to 3.30pm
We will be transitioning into our Winter Uniforms in Term 2. If you would like to order a Winter Tunic, kindly let Debbie know as it is more practical than to stock large numbers of them.
St Mary's will be holding a lucky jar stall at the Yarram Easter Country Fair.
Saturday, 16th April, from 2:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Yarram Recreation Reserve
To make this a success we need help from our St Mary's Community to donate empty jars or jars filled with small items.
Here are some suggestions:
Lollies
Toys
Hair ribbons
Pencils, erasers
Stickers
Beads
Let your lucky jar imagination go wild!!!!!!
Help Required prior and on the day of the Carnival:
- help on the day at the stall
- numbering the jars
- purchasing products to make extra jars (schools expense)
- making up extra jars as we are hoping to have 200 or more lucky jars on the day.
- donation of empty jars.
Please contact Debbie at the school office if you can help with any of the above.
Easter Raffle Donations.
We are asking all families to help support our Easter Raffle by making a donation towards the prizes. This could be Easter Eggs or something else that reflects Easter.
