Dear Parents and Friends of St Mary’s,
On Thursday, we had a wonderful visit with Bishop Gregory Bennet, which saw him visiting our classrooms and chatting with the students and staff. He was asked many questions that allowed the students to become better acquainted with the role and expectations of being a Bishop. Our junior students found out that his favourite ice cream is strawberry, and he is one of five in his family.
We, as a staff, had lovely afternoon tea with bishop Greg and he was highly impressed with the welcoming faces and smiles of all the children and the beautiful classrooms displaying the learning taking place. We look forward to another visit later in the year.
Our hearts and prayers go out to the people of Ukraine, and the following prayer allows some time for reflection and the overwhelming desire for peace and hope in these uncertain times.
PRAYER FOR UKRAINE
God of peace and justice,
Ww pray for the people of Ukraine today.
We pray for peace and the laying down of weapons.
We pray for all those who fear for tomorrow.
That your Spirit of comfort would draw near to them.
We pray for those with power over war or peace,
for wisdom, discernment and compassion to guide their decisions.
Above all, we pray for all your precious children, at-risk and in fear,
that you would hold and protect them.
We pray in the name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace.
Amen.
Kind regards,
Maria

Helping kids build lasting happiness
When asked “what do you want most for your kids in life?” most parents answer “to be happy”. While much of what has influenced kidsʼ mental health and happiness in recent years is outside the realm of influence, their long-term happiness issomething you can cultivate by implementing and teaching happiness habits and practices. Following is an important selection of these represented them by the acronym FLOURISH.
This week the season of Lent begins with Ash Wednesday, which also marks the beginning of the annual Caritas Australia Project Compassion Appeal. Donations to Project Compassion allows Caritas Australia, the Catholic Agency for International Aid and Development, to work with local communities around the world to end poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity.
The theme of Project Compassion 2022 is ‘For All Future Generations’ and reminds us that the good that we do today will extend and impact the lives of generations to come. It invites us to make the world a better place by working together now and finding long-term solutions to global issues. We encourage you to put your compassion into action this Lent through your prayer, fasting and almsgiving by supporting Project Compassion.
The SRC are having their first fundraiser today for Caritas. They have organized a fun event for the whole school, a disco. There is lots of excitement around this. This morning the children watched a video from Caritas Australia, which showed how the money from previous years has benefited individuals and communities around the world, eg: fresh water and education. Thank you for your donation to support this event.
First Week of Lent
(Week beginning Monday 7th March)
We begin our annual Lenten Project Compassion journey by learning about Anatercia, a 12-year-old girl living in a small village in southern Mozambique. She began to take on more and more adult responsibilities as her mother has chronic health issues. She did most of the household chores and had to travel up to five hours every day to collect clean water. Water scarcity also meant that harvests were poor and there was never enough to eat.
With your support, Caritas Australia’s local partner, Caritas Regional Chokwe, was able to help Anatercia’s family to irrigate their farm to improve their food security. They also improved water access for households in the village, delivered sustainable farming training, and provided Anatercia with essential school supplies.
Anatercia’s health, education and quality of life have improved, along with the outlook of her whole community for all future generations.

The School Uniform Shop is open Mondays to Fridays 8.30am to 3.30pm
We will be transitioning into our Winter Uniforms in Term 2. If you would like to order a Winter Tunic, kindly let Debbie know as it is more practical than to stock large numbers of them.
