Dear Parents and Friends of St Mary’s,
We have had a wonderful week of swimming at the Yarram Pool with all students participating in the Water Familiarisation Program. It was great to see the development of skills and especially confidence as the students enjoyed the sunshine and warm water.
A big thank you to Heather Flynn for the many hours spent organising our week so that it ran smoothly and without a hiccup. Thank you also to Jess Smith and the staff team for all their efforts and willingness to support this vital program in our school.
We announced our Leadership roles today and they look a little different than previous years. We have four School Captains that will share the role over two semesters. Two leaders will take on the role for two terms as Captains and two as Vice Captains. This will alternate for terms Three and Four.
Our captains for Term One and Two are Lyla and Indiana. Vice Captains Tate and Olivia

JUNIOR CLASSROOM
The Senior room is working on Renaming numbers in mathematics. This involves writing a number in terms of its place-value parts (eg. 462 is 4 hundreds 6 tens and 2 ones, but it can be renamed as 46 tens and 2 ones, or 4 hundreds and 62 ones).
Renaming teaches students the importance of breaking whole numbers down to their place value in order to do a myriad of mathematical equations. Renaming can help children estimate the answer to multiplication and division problems and compute complex subtraction and addition problems.
