Dear Families and Friends of St Mary’s,
Thank you to everyone for the manner in which the community rallied together and moved forward from the recent scare at Woolworths.
We live with and manage the COVID roller-coaster, and this recent event highlights the importance of clear communication and community spirit.
It will be wonderful to return to onsite learning tomorrow and reconnect as a school community. A big congratulations to all the families for the efforts made to meet remote learning needs and for the support of the children through the highs and lows of learning from home.
We are mindful that the children, families and staff will be feeling a range of emotions at the moment. The emotional well-being of everyone across our St Mary’s school community is at the forefront of our learning, interactions and connectedness to school routines. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any concerns or queries.
Stay Safe,
Maria.

Helping your family manage uncertainty
Uncertainty is part of life and yet our brain, which creates our thoughts and feelings, loves certainty and predictability.
The pandemic has created more uncertainty in families, schools and communities than most people can recall in their lifetimes. With no clear end point, more stress and anxiety may well be triggered. In small doses anxiety heightens your sense of focus, giving you an increased level of energy, and increases your chances of managing a potential challenge that has appeared. In large doses, this anxiety is problematic, as it can cause feelings of being overwhelmed and even panicked.
Junior Learning Space News
This week as part of learning about our bodies and how to keep healthy, we made skeletons with a partner.
Grace – Alice and I drew all our body parts, except our head. We used a paper plate for our head. Then we drew a face and then we stuck it onto black cardboard. We then cut it out.
Ivy – I worked with Hunter. Hunter made the head, I made the body and then we stapled it together.
Aaliyah – I worked with Sara and Tracey helped us to make our skeleton. We cut our paper on the lines, and stuck them together. Tracey drew the skull and the hip-bone for us.
Kyle – I worked with Tyler M to make our skeleton. We made it out of paper and a paper plate. The face was a paper plate. It was fun because we got to make two. One normal one and one skeleton one.
We had lots of fun learning about our bones.
The Middle Class are reading the picture book 'The Wall' which is a book about a little boy named Tom who wants to be an explorer but who lives inside a giant wall that keeps 'monsters' out.
Life becomes dreary when you are cut off from the wonders of the world and Tom realises there is a need for change. A true story of friendship and community, The Wall shows the importance of communities coming together and inclusivity. A perfect book to show the value of opening your heart and mind.
The students are climbing the wall to show us how we can all overcome our obstacles, even though we might struggle.
The Senior class have been working on publishing their own newspaper - 'The Blurb'

Jaycee has been working very hard to achieve her Peak Award through Joeys. This is one of the highest awards for Joeys.
Her assignment was do a community project and Jaycee chose to plant and nurture the garden beds at St. Mary's with a wonderful selection of produce and beautiful flowers.
Well done Jaycee, we are very proud of you and congratulations on your award.

Religion News
The Face of God
The Bible describes God's appearance as a brilliant light because there is no darkness in Him at all (1 John 1:5). This describes God's beauty, holiness, and purity. God is completely good and pure in His dealings with mankind.
This week I attended a Professional Development On-Line Session with Mr Sheedy, Ms Owens and Mrs Moore. As part of the discussion, we were called to discuss the following question, “Where do you see the face of God?”
We can see the face of God in many ways. The face of our loved ones, especially our children, the celebrations we share with others, the laughter, the joy and the love that we experience. We can see God in nature, the wind that caresses our faces, the rain, the waves, the sun and the beautiful rainbows that appears in the sky.
As teachers of your children, we are blessed. We are surrounded each day by laughter, joy, excitement, kindness and happiness. As we watch, your children grow, learn and experience challenges and make friendships we truly see the Face of God. Thank you for the Gift of your children.
Kind Regards
Sue Benc
