Dear Parents,
I recently received an email that included this prayer by Pope Francis about fasting during Lent. Coincidently, this same prayer was read and used as a reflection at last Friday’s school liturgy. The words in the prayer are very powerful and lead us not to fast (give up something) during Lent, but encourages us to ‘be more’. What do you want to fast from this Lent?
St Mary’s Primary School Open Day
All St Mary’s families and friends are invited to our Open Day. Please come in and visit your child’s classroom, join them in their learning and enjoy a look around our school.
School Closure Day
Next Friday, 5th March is a school closure day for St Mary’s Primary due to staff being involved in professional development. As Monday, 8th March is the Labour Day public holiday, I hope that you all have a great long weekend.
School Advisory Committee Nominations
This week forms were sent home to all families regarding nominations for the St Mary’s School Advisory Committee. Please carefully consider nominating yourself or another parent to either the position of chair, secretary or general committee member. Positions will be announced at our AGM on Tuesday, 16th March at 5:15pm.
Email Addresses
Due to a number of families not receiving the school newsletter of emails sent to all families, a note was sent out last week asking for your email address information. If you have not completed this form and returned it to school, can I please ask that you do this as soon as possible.

At Equine Therapy we learnt that we need to build trust with our horse Dali, and this was done through touch and grooming her to begin with. We had to help our team to lead Dali over poles and around obstacles courses. Everyone helped each other and this built our teams trust. I can’t wait to go back next week and work with Mary, Bill and their beautiful horses. Ava Pickard
I loved the experience of Equine Therapy even though I was scared at first. It definitely boosted my confidence after a while. Mary was so encouraging, she understood why I was nervous and helped me build trust with my horse Dahli.
I can’t wait to go back next week. Hannah Minett.
World of Maths, a unique traveling maths show visited our school today. The children participated in fun, colourful, hands-on, mathematical problem solving activities.
Hair Styles, Jewellery, Nail Polish and Make-Up
The children’s hair is to be worn in a neat and tidy style. Children with longer hair that can potentially cover their eyes are to wear it tied back or up in a ponytail, plait or some other suitable style. This includes both girls and boys. Hair ribbons, scrunchies etc. are to be of the predominant school colours blue or white.
Jewellery is not considered part of the St Mary's dress code and generally is not to be worn with the school uniform. However the following exceptions apply:
a. If your child has pierced ears:
· Plain studs only (nothing that glitters or dangles)
b. Religious medals may be worn on a chain round the neck or on a pin. Care must be taken to ensure that these are worn in such a way as to be safe when the children are playing.
Nail polish and make-up are not permitted as part of the school uniform.
ICY POLES
The Year 6 students will be selling Icy poles at lunchtime on Fridays to help raise money for their Year 6 Polo Shirts.
50 cents each
