Dear Parents and Carers,
As we approach the final weeks of Term Two, we are not just completing assessments and writing end-of-semester reports. We are witnessing our students' remarkable growth, a testament to their hard work and dedication. Our staff's comments on our students' achievements reflect their progress.
In the last few weeks of this term, we recognise that our students might feel pressure, especially with the winter weather confining them indoors. This is a pivotal moment to reiterate our school-wide expectations, which are more than just rules. They are a solid pledge to foster a respectful and nurturing school community, ensuring the best for our students.
As always, we kindly ask you to ensure your precious children's safe drop-off and pick-up. Seeing these happy and secure children arriving and leaving St Mary’s every day is a heartwarming sight, a testament to our collective commitment as a school community to their safety.
Congratulations to Sara, who competed in the Wellington Zone Cross Country last week. Despite the challenging course and strong competitors, she managed to secure a commendable position, which is an extraordinary achievement.
Maria

Mental Health and Wellbeing News
Dear Parents/Carers,
Last Newsletter we had a look at Self Talk and how important it is for not only our children but ourselves. Today we will continue with the next Competency in Social and Emotional Learning which is Relationship Skills.
Relationship skills are concerned with our ability to interact positively with peers and adults, and to effectively navigate social situations. This includes the capacities to communicate clearly, listen actively, cooperate, work collaboratively to problem solve and negotiate conflict constructively, navigate settings with differing social and cultural demands and opportunities, provide leadership, and seek or offer help when needed.
Having the ability to maintain healthy relationships is an extremely important skill that students need to be taught. This is an area of focus that we talk about with students on a daily basis and will continue to do so.
Below are some of the skills that we focus on within the classrooms and on the playground.
- Communicate effectively
- Develop positive relationships
- Demonstrate cultural competency
- Practice teamwork and collaborative problem‑solving
- Negotiate and resolve conflicts constructively
- Resist negative social pressure
- Show leadership in groups
- Seek or offer support and help when needed
- Stand up for the rights of others
If you have any queries regarding building positive relationships skills please do not hesitate to contact me.
