Dear Parents and Friends of St Mary’s,
Thank you to those who donated money for Day for Daniel last Friday. The students represented the day by wearing red and participating in Child Safety activities across the school.
We had a fantastic Mad Hatters Tea Party yesterday to celebrate the end of our successful Book Week, in which we raised $1600. The students looked incredible in their costumes and hats as we shared cupcakes as a whole school.
A big thank you to Sharon, who organised the week and made herself available to meet with families to purchase books and items.
Please keep updated with school events as we have a busy end-of-term ahead.
Maria
God of peace, bearer of hope,
we seek your help
for the peoples of the Middle East.
Quiet the clamour of war
and guide us towards peace.
Where there is hatred and division
sow seeds of calm and openness.
Where there is destruction
help us to rebuild.
Where children are crying
bring an end to tears.
Shelter your peoples and protect them
Guide them and keep them from harm.
Show us how to break down the barriers of history and fear
and breathe whispers of hope.

ST. MARY'S BOOK FAIR
Religious News: Thursday the 2nd of November.
All Souls Day: Thursday the 2nd of November
Today we came together with the Parish to celebrate All Souls Day.
A Reflection taken from:
Presence
I reflect for a moment on God’s presence around me and in me.
Creator of the universe, the sun and the moon, the earth,
every molecule, every atom, everything that is:
God is in every beat of my heart. God is with me, now.
Freedom
Thank you for the gift of freedom, Lord.
Grant that I may always choose to follow You.
Keep me ever mindful of your ways,
Of your love and concern for all people.
Consciousness
Dear Lord, by spending time with you, may I become more like you, so that others will see Christ in me and come to know your love.
The Word of God
Matthew 11:25-30
25At that time Jesus said, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and the intelligent and have revealed them to infants; 26yes, Father, for such was your gracious will. 27All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.
28“Come to me, all you who are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
Inspiration
As Jesus reveals himself through the Gospels, we discover that the basic attitude of his heart is one of unconditional love, not hatred or ambivalence. The first and last message of the Gospel is that God loves this world and every person in it. He sent his son Jesus not as a judge but as a shepherd, with a large and compassionate heart.
A saying of Saint Catherine of Siena was ‘Where we see sins, God sees weakness'. She points to the reality that many people try to do their best but find their faults and failings often overcome them. God sees the heart and sees our efforts to do good, even though these efforts do not always succeed. God's Spirit, given with many gifts and energies for the world, also brings the gift of Divine forgiveness.
Conversation
God’s Word is always fruitful.
How is it touching me now
As I reflect on what I have just prayed?
Do I feel comforted?
Do I feel challenged?
Conclusion
I thank God for His gift of love
As I go forth with joy and hope
To serve His people.
Amen

CHRISTMAS CARDS
Every year the Diocese of Sale Catholic Education Office run a Christmas card competition which is open to all students from Prep to year 12.
Each year there is a theme to the pictures.
We are making Christmas cards using the drawings by St Mary’s Yarram students. The cards come with envelopes at a cost of $1 per card or $5 for a pack.
There is no limit to the number of cards you order.
Orders with the name of the student/s and money can be sent to the office in an envelope. We will call you when they are ready for pickup.
A sample of the cards are located in the office. There will be a picture of all the drawings available also.
Thank you for supporting our fundraiser where all money goes back into the school for our students.
CALENDARS
Calendars are for sale again this year. The calendars have photos of your child/children throughout the 2023 school year. An example of the calendar is available for viewing at the office.
Calendars cost $10 each and are a great gift for Christmas
Epidemic Thunderstorm Asthma
• Epidemic thunderstorm asthma is where a large number of people suddenly develop
asthma symptoms over a short period of time which is thought to be triggered by a unique combination of high pollen levels and a certain type of thunderstorm. The Bureau of
Meteorology works closely with the Department of Health to forecast the risk of an
epidemic thunderstorm asthma event.
• Thunderstorm asthma occurs when people develop asthma symptoms quickly over a short
period of time. People who suffer from wheezing and coughing with their asthma or hay
fever are particularly affected. Increased symptoms at these times can become serious or even life-threatening to individuals.
• St. Mary's will be implementing a range of measures to keep our school community safe when the risk of thunderstorms increases we will:
− monitor weather events through the Bureau of Meteorology
− monitor the VicEmergency site for incidents and warnings, including the daily
epidemic thunderstorm asthma risk forecast
− remain indoors on days when weather may pose a greater risk to the increase of
asthma and hay fever symptoms
− ensure students who suffer from asthma or asthma symptoms have an up-to-date
asthma action plan or have consulted with their doctor
− utilise air purifiers to reduce dust, airborne particles, and pollen in the air
− ensure staff asthma training is up to date.

The Tarra Festival Committee, on behalf of the Yarram Progress Association & Tarra Tourism, is organising a colouring competition and has chosen the king parrot on the top of the Heesco water tower.
There are prizes to be won and entries will be displayed on the windows of the Future of Yarram office.
The Design a Plate fundraiser is still ongoing, this fundraiser gets children to draw an original painting onto a plate, which they can bring home as a personalised piece of artwork.
Each plate is $10.00.
We appreciate your help in making this program fun for the kids and thank you for your continued support.
Please note that we are limited to one plate per student.
