Tomorrow, Friday, 27th of October, is World Teachers’ Day, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the teaching staff at St Mary’s for their dedication and continued excellence in driving student learning at St Mary’s. I hope you know how appreciated you are!
Also, tomorrow, we are coming together as a school community united by the colour red in honour of Daniel Morcombe.
Congratulations to our Grade 4-6 students who participated in Kanga Cricket at the Yarram Recreational Reserve on Monday. We are so proud of your efforts in representing the school through wild and unpredictable weather. Thank you to Anthony Sheedy for organising the event, teams and setting up the oval.
Next Wednesday, November 1st, we celebrate Book Week with a Mad Hatters Tea Party. The children will decorate a cupcake in class on Tuesday with icing and sprinkles ready for sharing.
The children can wear any hat they wish for the tea party; please don’t go and purchase something new for the occasion.
Pour your power upon all your children in the Middle East: Jews, Muslims and Christians, Palestinians and Israelis.
Let hatred be turned into love, fear to trust, despair to hope, oppression to freedom, occupation to liberation.
That violent encounters may be replaced by loving embraces, and peace and justice could be experienced by all.
Amen.

Held annually on the last Friday of October, Day for Daniel honours the memory of Daniel Morcombe, who tragically went missing in December 2003; he was wearing a red T-shirt.
The Day for Daniel Foundation aims to build a future, where children are free from harm and abuse. We encourage parents, carers and to start a conversation with children and young people about personal safety.
We have registered our school to be a part of this fundraising day. On Friday, 27th October 2023, students can wear red clothes and we will be conducting child safety activities.
If you would like to make a donation to the foundation, the link is below.
CANTEEN - BANDANNA DAY - 27th October
National Bandanna Day is held on the last Friday of October (27th October 2023) to raise awareness for young people impacted by cancer.
Bandannas are available for sale at the school office for $5.
We apologise for the short notice, our bandannas were delivered yesterday.

SOCKTOBER FUNDRAISER
Thank you to everyone who wore their whacky socks in the funniest ways on Tuesday, 24th October. We have raised $80 for Catholic Missions in Timor Leste. These much-needed funds will be used to provide nutrition and medication for sick babies and children.
Get to know Timor-Leste.
One of Australia's closest neighbours, Timor-Leste is a small island republic just under 700kms from Darwin, which shares its western border with Indonesia. The country secured its independence from Indonesia in 2001, after an oppressive and violent occupation. Today, the scars still linger as the people grapple with the effects of poverty, low-quality healthcare and infrastructure, corruption and inequality.

Religious News: Thursday the 26th of October.
Socktober
On Tuesday the 24th of October, the school was very colourful with amazing, crazy socks. Thank you for your kind donations to assist families in Timor-Leste.
Next Thursday we will celebrate Mass at 10:00 am. Grade Five and Six will lead this Mass. The theme of the Mass is All Souls Day. This is when we remember those who are no longer with us and their place in our lives.

Sacrament of Reconciliation: This will be celebrated on Tuesday the 14th of November at 6:00 pm in the St. Joseph’s Room.

The Design a Plate fundraiser is still ongoing, this fundraiser gets children to draw an original painting onto a plate, which they can bring home as a personalised piece of artwork.
Each plate is $10.00.
We appreciate your help in making this program fun for the kids and thank you for your continued support.
Please note that we are limited to one plate per student.
