Dear Parents and Friends of St Mary’s,
Yesterday we came together as a school to participate in The Mind Masters, an interactive conversation about positive mental health practices that set our students up for a more valuable school and life experience. Throughout our session, we focused on Stress and its impact on our lives. We were provided with information and exercises about how stress impacts our bodies and thought processes and emphasised the importance of mindset and how to manage stress. We also learnt that stress can be healthy and help us be more resilient and optimistic.
Tomorrow the students from Years Three to Six will participate in the Winter Sports across different locations. Please ensure they have the correct winter sports uniform, snack, lunch and water bottle. As we are experiencing cool weather, please pack a coat for extra warmth.
Good luck to everyone and enjoy participating in your chosen sport.
Maria

This week students and staff participated in a Stress Smart activity focussing on well-being and mental health. Areas covered were, What is stress?, Stress is Normal, and Strategies for Managing Stress.
Students and staff in the Middle school area were able to share, discuss and write about experiences that they had encountered and the variety of ways that they had dealt with these situations. Deep breathing, doing a relaxing or calming activity that you enjoy - eg. riding your bike, walking your dog, cuddling your cat, colouring, drawing, drinking water, talking to someone you trust, positive thinking and using your five senses were among the many options mentioned. The activity also conveyed that Stress is not necessarily always a bad thing, that is, it can also motivate us to get ready for 'action', but we do need to manage it.

The Parents and Friends Group would like to thank the families for their support with the Chocolate Fundraiser and the Pie Drive.
So far, the Chocolate Fundraiser has raised for the school $900 to spend on new equipment for the students. We have 7 boxes still to sell, so if you know someone who may like to support the school and purchase a box, please see Debbie in the Office.
The Pie Drive, which is supported by Yarram Bakery and Café has raised $200 and we thank the Bakery for their ongoing support of the school.
Fundraising is an ongoing support to the school in purchasing equipment for the students to enjoy and to support special events such as the Mother’s and Father’s Day Stalls and Breakfasts, Colour Fun Run and BBQ’s/Hotdog Days.
If you are able to help out or have suggestions for future fundraisers, please let Debbie know in the office. Everyone is welcome!
SPECIAL REPORT: Social Media Influencers
"Social media influencers often present a highly curated and filtered version of their lives, showcasing only the positive aspects. This can create unrealistic beauty standards, success and happiness for children. Constant exposure to this may lead to feelings of inadequacy, low self-worth and dissatisfaction." -Dr Emma Woodward
