Dear Parents and Friends of St Mary’s,
Well, here we are at the midpoint of Term Two, and the weeks are flying by. We had a fabulous Mother’s Day Breakfast last Friday, and our hall was at capacity with 29 families attending and 100 guests for the morning. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting and chatting with our wonderful mothers and special people throughout the breakfast.
We moved from our breakfast to the classrooms for our activities morning, and the students enjoyed sharing some learning with their special person.
Thank you to all the staff for your time to make this special date on the calendar a success.
Tomorrow is National Walk to School Day, and I look forward to meeting at the park at 8:15 am and enjoying our walk to school together. Mr Sheedy will be on duty at school for those students who are unable to walk to school.
We wish Macy and Mia all the best as they make a significant step in their faith journey by receiving their First Eucharist. May you enjoy this special occasion with your families, and may God bless you both.

Religion News: Thursday the 18th of May 2023
Catholic Education Week
Our school, along with the 45 Catholic schools in the Diocese of Sale, will celebrate Catholic Education Week from this Friday the 19th of May to Friday the 26th of May.
The theme for this year’s celebrations is- Catholic Schools – Places of Encounter. ‘Let the words you speak always be full of Grace’, based on Colossians 4:6.
Catholic schools are more than just buildings where students come to learn. They are Places of Encounter where students can grow academically, spiritually and personally.
The ‘Speaking with Grace’ theme invites us to consider the power of our words and the impact our words may have on others. Words have the power to inspire, uplift, and transform lives but they can also be hurtful or discouraging. This year’s theme aims to encourage students and those in our school community to use their words to build up others, to speak out against injustice, and to spread love and hope in the world.
Catholic Education Week is an opportunity for all Catholic schools to celebrate our distinctive mission and share features that are special about our schools.
Members of our staff will be attending a Leadership Mass and Dinner to celebrate and recognise the outstanding service and excellence of staff and students in Catholic education in our Diocese in Traralgon on Friday the 19th of May.
Our school will also celebrate a Prayer Service on Wednesday the 24th of May at 9:10 am in the Junior Learning Space. Families are invited and welcome.
Our whole School will also attend the Peace Mass on Friday the 26th of May in Sale. We will join other Catholic schools in the Wellington Shire to pray for peace. The Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Greg Bennet.
Kind Regards
Sue Benc
KASA JIZO CULTURAL PERFORMANCE
THE JAPANESE FOOD- Mochi, ramen and soup, by Saanvi.
Tofu is really soft and it does not taste like anything.
One time me and my mum went to a restaurant and there was tofu and vegetables In a bowl. It was good.
Ramen is really spicy and GREAT!! Me and my sister and mum love Ramen, we got it at a Japanese store. My sister makes it for me and my mum.
Mochi you can get sweet and not sweet. I have only tried the sweet one.
We always get it at Woollies’ or a Japanese store. It had ice-cream and the outside is gooey.
Mochi and Ramen and Tofu are really good. Go try it!!!
THIS IS A PERFORMANCE ABOUT JAPAN By Macy.
When the children woke up there were straw jackets on them.
And when they woke up there was an old lady.
The lady was dirty and she had no money because she was poor.
I enjoyed the performance.
THE LOST UMBRELLA (Hat) By Addison.
One day the big sis was in Japan. It was windy and raining and her umbrella hat flew off.
You could see and hear dancing, songs, 1 ring every minute, wind noise, sword noise.
It was funny when Anne turned and her hat fell off.
I liked the Jizo and bells.
SUBARASHII, good, great!!!

The old man helped the kids make straw hats to keep them protected from snow.
Max had a sword that was made out of plastic.
They ring the bells every minute for 108 minutes.
THE UMBRELLA SONG By Ivy.
It is Wednesday and Anne is doing a performance and teaching us and other schools, words.
The interesting thing is doing the actions, listening to the music and singing the song!
I was interested about the big bell ? !
I like the word subarashii!
RICE MOCHI By Jonathan.
Rice mochi helped the kids.
Rice mochi is made out of sticky or soft white rice.
The old man made mochi for the kids that are selling kasa (hats).
The kids thanked the old man for giving them the mochi.
The old man said, “eat this so you won’t be struggling for food, Happy Ever After.”

Jizo saves the child from Max.
The children woke up with the straw jackets on.
Jizo helped the children get home.
The children ate mochi rice with hard eggs.
The children went to sleep when they got home.
THE VISITOR WHO CAME TO SCHOOL By Alice.
When I came to school my teacher said a visitor is coming and performing a Japanese story and song.
I liked the songs and the different sound.
The story was interesting but confusing at the same time.
The hats were cool, I liked the hats because you could wear them.
It was okay but not the best.
THE JIZO REPORT By Hunter.
This report is about Jizo the statue. The statue turned to gold.
The girl and the boy put the hats on the statue. I like the story.
