Dear Parents and Friends of Mary’s,
Here we are in the middle of our Term, with Autumn upon us. I love the change of seasons, with Autumn being my favourite.
Students are still required to wear their school hats during all of Term One, even if we have cloud cover. Please ensure that all uniform items are labelled with your child’s name, making it easier for staff to keep track of uniforms if they are left on the playground or misplaced in class.
Last week we welcomed Fr Johny and Fr Antony for morning tea and a chat with all our classrooms. Fr Jonhy was visiting from Kerala, India and is Fr Antony’s superior. We were treated to a morning of counting and writing the alphabet in Malayalam.
Congratulations to the students who participated in the Yarram and District Swimming Carnival on Monday. We received numerous places from First, Second and Third for our backstroke freestyle and relay. A Big THANK YOU to Mr Sheedy and all the parents available to help on the day.
Maria

A REMINDER TO PLEASE FILL OUT YOUR SURVEYS
The process of school review is an important element of the ongoing improvement of
schools in the Diocese of Sale. This survey tool is a way for your school to examine its
practices and shared understandings as a way of identifying practices to be maintained
and strengthened, and opportunities to be addressed moving forward.
As a parent, you have an important perspective to share. Please answer each question,
rating your response on the five-point scale. Responses are anonymous and will assist
the school in its school review.
The link for your survey is:

Thanks to the tireless efforts of Janette Sampson, we have a delicious fundraiser this month. The Cadbury Fundraiser will help raise funds for books and games for our school.
If you do not want a box to sell, please let the school know via Email or phone, so we can hand them out to other parents.
Thank you all for your participation and enthusiasm in support of this fundraiser.
Please remember to hand your money, along with any unsold chocolates to the school by 24th March 2023.
St Mary's will be holding a lucky jar stall at the Yarram Easter Carnival on Saturday, 8th April 2023.
To make this a success we need help from our St Mary's Community to help fill jars.
Here are some suggestions:
Lollies
Toys
Hair ribbons
Pencils, erasers
Stickers
Beads
Help Required prior and on the day of the Carnival:
- help on the day at the stall
- numbering the jars
- purchasing products to make extra jars (schools expense)
- making up extra jars as we are hoping to have 200 or more lucky jars on the day.
- donation of empty jars.
Please contact Debbie at the school office if you can help with any of the above.
Religious News: Prayer
During the Season of Lent, we are asked to fast, pray and to give to those that are not as fortunate as others (almsgiving).
We can find many examples in the Bible where Jesus prayed, especially in the Gospel of Luke. During his time in the desert, he prayed constantly in preparation for his ordeal that was to follow. He prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane on the night that he was arrested, before his crucifixion.
The Lord’s Prayer
Gospel of Luke 11 He was praying in a certain place, and after he had finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.” 2 He said to them, “When you pray, say:
Father,hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come
Give us each day our daily bread.
And forgive us our sins,
for we ourselves forgive everyone indebted to us.
And do not bring us to the time of trial.”
Here we can see where the Lord’s Prayer that we say today comes from the Gospel of Luke.
However, we do not need to say formal prayers to pray. We can just talk with God. We can pray anywhere and at any time and we do not need any special place to pray.
One of our Parish Priests once said when you sing during Mass and Liturgies you are praying twice.
During Lent, try to take a moment to have a conversation with God, remembering the special Season of Lent.
Kind Regards
Sue Benc
