Remembrance Day
Today is Remembrance Day. This is a special day when we remember the men, women and animals that were involved in War.
In Melbourne today, at the Shrine of Remembrance, 100 pigeons will be released, the first time since the memorial opened in 1934 that birds will fly free to mark Remembrance Day.
A release of 20,000 carrier pigeons from the upper gallery at the Shrine’s opening ceremony was a powerful celebration of the signing of the armistice that ended World War I on November 11, 1918.
At the eleventh hour, we pause for a minute’s silence, to remember, so that we never forget the impact of war.
Throughout the week, the students at St Mary’s have been learning about the meaning of Remembrance Day. In the Junior Learning Space, we constructed Peace kites and reflected on Jesus’ message “love one another as I have loved you.”
Kind Regards
